Three tasty cork products feature in an Irish food basket heading for the White House

A Taoiseach Micheál Martin will bring a basket of goodies to Washington this week, including premium products from Cork.

The Origin Green certified Irish food and drink basket will be presented to First Lady Dr Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris during her visit to the White House on St. Patrick’s Day.

As well as a selection of relish from Ballymaloe in East Cork and Folláin preserves made in Cuil Aodha, West Cork, they will also receive a tasty bottle of Five Farms, the world’s first farm-to-table Irish cream liqueur, which is made in Cork with milk from some of the happiest cows in the county (and delicious in an iced Irish coffee).

President Biden is five-eighths Irish, with all of his mother’s ancestry tracing back to Ireland, so he’ll no doubt be keen to unpack his favorite tunes once all the day’s chores are done.

The contents of the Bord Bia basket for the visit to the White House are as follows:

  • Ballymaloe
  • Burren Smokehouse
  • Butler Chocolates
  • Cooleeney Cheese
  • Five Farms Cream Liqueur
  • Oats from Flahavan
  • Folláin Jam
  • Keogh Crisps
  • Kerrygold Butter/Cheese
  • Lakeside mustard
  • Lily O’Brien Chocolates
  • Silke Irish Whiskey

In 2021, Irish food and drink exports reached over 180 countries around the world and were valued at €13.5 billion, an increase of 4% on 2020.

Throughout March, Bord Bia will leverage global St. Patrick’s Day celebrations to launch a program of targeted trade engagements and promotional campaigns in 18 countries, from Dubai to Dusseldorf.

In addition to these activities, the large American multinational Whole Foods Market is running an “Ode to Ireland” promotion of Irish spirits in its 147 stores across the country.
