– This is the home stretch for Notre Dame as there are only two weekends of play left at the ACC and this weekend’s series against Pitt will be the last home series of the year.

– Notre Dame enters weekend No. 11 in RPI while Pitt moved up to No. 61.

– Ireland’s pitching staff will need to be sharp as Pitt has been effective hitting the long ball this year. Pitt enters the series No. 31 in the nation in home runs per game (1.48) and No. 35 in home runs. Tatem Levins and Ron Washington Jr. lead the Panthers in homers with 13 apiece. First-year infielder Tommy Tavarez has four goals in the last 17 games.

– The streak is huge for both teams as they battle for the playoffs. There is no doubt that the Irish will be in the field of 64, but it is a question of welcoming a regional and possibly a super regional. Taking the series would be huge for Notre Dame, but a sweep would likely be huge. No. 7 Louisville travels to No. 4 Virginia Tech this weekend and No. 6 Miami is on the road in Tallahassee. The Irish will wrap up the regular season in Miami next weekend.

– Notre Dame cruised in the opener as the Irish scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back. Brook Coetzee III went three-for-four from the plate and hit his 10th homer of the year. John Michael Bertrand picked up his seventh win of the year after going 7.0 innings with nine strikeouts.

– Saturday is graduation day at Frank Eck as the Irish will honor their seniors and graduates ahead of the game where they will also receive their diplomas. Notre Dame plays at noon on Sunday, which will prevent them from attending the graduation.
