Notre Dame WR Avery Davis out for 2022 season

Notre Dame wide receiver Avery Davis will miss the 2022 season after suffering a right ACL injury during Friday practice.

Davis had worked hard over the past nine months to return to the training ground after tearing his left ACL in November against Navy.

Head coach Marcus Freeman said Davis and a few other players returned to training after the first day of preseason camp.

“Both of these guys are all in, except they’re just limited in rep volume,” Freeman said of Davis and tight end Cane Berrong. “We have a few guys like that, Marist Liufau being one. All of these guys are into it.

The Texas native had not only found solace at receiver, but Davis had his most productive season at Notre Dame last fall recording 27 catches for 386 yards and four touchdowns.

Davis was named captain last fall because the locker room had great respect for the 5-foot-11, 202-pounder as he had played quarterback, running back and cornerback in addition to receiver during his tenure. career in blue and gold.

In January, Davis announced he would be returning for his sixth year as he looks to build on his career totals of 66 receptions for 862 yards and eight touchdowns.

The loss is significant as Notre Dame’s receiving room was already thin and his injury only complicates matters as second-year wide receiver Deion Colzie missed Friday practice after being dressed in street clothes with a brace. in the left knee.
