Notre Dame RB Jadarian Price suffers season-ending injury

Notre Dame’s early draftee Jadarian Price was the subject of the Spring Ball, but the freshman running back will have to wait to make his blue and gold debut as he suffered a ruptured Achilles this week during training according to several sources. The Athletic’s Pete Sampson was the first to report.

The Texas native is due for surgery Friday morning.

It’s a success for Notre Dame’s back room as second Logan Diggs recovers from a shoulder injury he suffered during the Blue-Gold Game in April.

Price rushed nine times for just 12 yards in the spring game, but he showed all his skills catching eight passes for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Junior Chris Tyree, sophomore Audric Estime and rookie Gi’Bran Payne will form the running backs room ahead of fall camp. Tyree rushed for 718 yards and five touchdowns while adding 32 receptions for 258 yards and two other scores in his first two years at Notre Dame. Esteem is a first bus guy, but he’s still a bit of an unknown in the field as he ran for 60 yards seven times in 2021 as a true freshman.

Payne was a four-star prospect fresh out of high school and originally signed with Indiana before exiting his letter of intent and signing with the Irish in the spring.

Ireland running backs coach Deland McCullough will have to step up room development as Notre Dame looks to replace one of its most productive fullbacks in program history as Kyren Williams was drafted by the Rams from Los Angles.
