CJ Carr benefited from superb trips to South Bend, which contributed to the 2024 five-star quarterback’s commitment to Notre Dame.
Last Tuesday’s barbecue was up to any of them, according to Carr.
“It was awesome,” Carr said. “This was probably one of my favorite visits to Notre Dame, if not my favorite.
“It was great getting around most of the commitments and then also the kids that Notre Dame continues to recruit and we’re starting this relationship.”
Virtually every uncommitted visitor we spoke to about the event mentioned that Carr explained to them why he — and his colleagues Cam Williams and Jack Larsen — chose Notre Dame.
“You’re just trying to show them the brotherhood that we’ve built,” Carr said of her pitch. “The Class of 2024 haven’t been together too long, but I’m going to meet Cam and Jack and it’s like we’re already best friends. So that’s one thing.
“And then another thing is you go to a bunch of different schools that have won national championships, and it’s not that bad if you win another one. Notre Dame is the one where if you win a national championship , you’re a legend there. I think that’s a big recruiting pitch that I say to some of these guys.
Missouri 2024 Wide Receiver ryan wingo was one of Carr’s primary targets at the event.
“This is my second time meeting Ryan and he’s been great,” Carr said. “His parents are also great. We have to meet them.
“It’s been great to be around him. We were on a team with him and Cam Williams, jumping with him, playing a bunch of mini-games and playing basketball and throwing football a bit. It was just awesome to to be with him and to get to know him.
2024 California Wide Receiver Emmet Mosley also mentioned the importance of having an elite quarterback in place in the Irish 2024 class.
“He was awesome too,” Carr said of Mosley. “We played a little cornhole with him and were able to compete. Competing with these guys is also a lot of fun. It was just overall a great trip.
Competition was a theme of the event, almost more than recruiting itself.
“I think it’s starting to see some of these kids who can really compete, how they perform,” Carr said. “I love the competition, I love doing it with my friends Cam and Jack and then continuing to compete with other kids. It’s always nice to have a little friendly competition.
Carr also took the opportunity to reconnect with Marcus Freeman, Tommy Rees and the rest of the coaching staff.
“It was awesome,” he said. “They make you feel like family there. Talking to Coach Freeman with a bunch of commits was awesome too. That’s how we started the day.
“Then obviously Coach Rees is always amazing when you talk about him playing cornhole or playing basketball. It’s always awesome.
