An Irish film has been ranked No.1 on Sight and Sound’s Top 50 Movies of 2021 list.
Co-produced by Irish production company Element Pictures, The Remembrance Part II took first place in the film magazine’s poll after more than 1,000 votes by over 100 critics and contributors.
The film is the sequel to 2019 drama The Souvenir, which told the story of Julie (Honor Swinton Byrne), a young aspiring director in the UK in the 1980s.
The Souvenir Part II sees her attempting to make her graduation film the day after a tumultuous relationship.
Executive produced by Martin Scorsese and starring Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Harris Dickinson (The King’s Man), Joe Alwyn (The Favorite), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd) and Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton) in its cast, The film has been a hit with critics and currently holds an impressive 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
“[Writer-director Joanna] Hogg highlights Julie’s burgeoning career in the film industry and a series of casual relationships in this beautifully sophisticated semi-autobiographical sequel, âSight and Sound wrote.
The film edged out other acclaimed films from around the world including Little Mom, Drive My Car, Memoria (also starring Tilda Swinton) and Titanium, which rounded out the top five spots.
