Here’s every Irish movie premiere on TV this Christmas



We now know the films that you will be browsing the contents of your selection boxes on RTÉ, Virgin Media and TG4 at Christmas.

While there will be a slew of Christmas classics, you’ll probably want to know which movie premieres the broadcaster has landed.

‘Sol’ | December 21 at 6.30 p.m.

Heartwarming Irish Tale from Paper Owl Films, Emmy Award-winning Irish actress Fionnula Flanagan voices Sol’s grandmother alongside Myra Zepf (author and winner of Irish Children’s Book of the Year) who voices mother of Sol. Sol himself is voiced by 12-year-old Zana Akkoç. The song in the film was recorded by Moya Brennan, a member of the Celtic folk group Clannad.

‘Finky’ | New Year’s Day at 9:20 p.m.

Dathaí Keane’s Finky tells the story of Micí Finky, a musician with a tragic past who is paralyzed in a car accident and who has a chance to redeem himself when recruited by a violent and avant-garde circus. Finky embarks on a psychedelic high-speed odyssey but, as his journey becomes more hellish and surreal, he realizes that he must face his troubled past if he is ever to find peace.
