Several establishments in Galway have won titles this year at the Bar of the Year Awards and Food Awards Ireland.
Food Awards Ireland winners include John Keogh’s Gastropub, Il Vicolo, Restaurant Gigi’s at the G Hotel, Tuco’s Taqueria and Roots Café Bar Shop on Shop Street.
Celebrating the victory, Matt Hall, owner of John Keogh’s, said: “We are absolutely delighted to win the regional award for Best Gastro Pub at the Food Awards 2022 last night. It’s a testament to our amazing team who work hard every day to make sure we produce the best local produce every night.
“The menu features high quality fare in a relaxed setting with favorites like our six-hour slow-cooked lamb, homemade breads, homemade desserts and daily seafood specials, all prepared under the direction of our multi-award-winning chef Joe Faherty,” Hall said.
Chef Dominique Majecki and his team at the G Hotel restaurant Gigi’s are also celebrating their victory at the Food Awards Ireland. Majecki and his team won Best Hotel Restaurant 2022. The French chef joined G Hotel as head chef in March this year from Glenlo Abbey where he had been executive chef since 2018.
Speaking on the win, Majecki said, “Our valued team of chefs and staff at gigis restaurant are passionate about showcasing local ingredients and transforming them into delicious meals suitable for all occasions and palates. We are absolutely delighted to have won this award and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank our hotel team, including Food and Beverage Manager Maurice Ryan and Assistant Restaurant Manager Lukasz Matula for their hard work and their insight. ”
Similarly, Il Vicolo celebrated their victory with their supporters via their Facebook page, posting that the staff were “over the moon” and that “winning the award for best Italian restaurant in Ireland is a dream come true”.
Other winners included Tuco’s Taqueria on Abbeygate Street, which won Best Mexican Establishment, and Root Café Bar Shop, which won Cafe/Bistro of the Year.
The 2022 Bar of the Year Awards saw wins for; An Púcán in the People’s Choice Award for Connacht/Ulster, The Front Door won Silver for Best Bar/Nightclub of the Year, The Quays Bar and Music Hall received Gold for Best Entertainment Bar live, Hyde Bar Galway won Gin Bar of the Year, Tom Sheridan’s Bar and Restaurant Galway a bronze medal in the Local Bar of the Year category.
The Front Door posted about the triumph on their Facebook account saying, “We still pinch each other! Delighted to have won silver for City Bar of the Year at the Bar of the Year Awards this week! Being second as best city bar of the year in the country is a good result for us. »
