If it wasn’t clear that Braylon James ‘gets’ Notre Dame when he committed, that should be clear after the 2023 Irish wide receiver’s official visit to South Bend last weekend.
“This weekend has been breathtaking,” the Texas wide receiver told Irish Sports Daily afterwards.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder chose the Irish over offers from schools like Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, LSU, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Stanford among several others when he made his decision public in April.
“It was my first time back to South Bend since joining and finally having the opportunity to be with everyone who is already in the class was so awesome,” James said.
Besides encountering other commits like Preston Zinter, Jayden Limar, Adon Shuler, Sam Pendleton, Sullivan Abcher and others, James played a leading role in trying to get the California receiver Rico Flores Jr., to join the group.
“I was also lucky enough to really get along with Rico,” James said.
James noticed the similarities and differences between himself and the West Coast native.
“We’re both two very different people with very different backgrounds, but we’re so similar because we have the same goals,” James said of himself and Flores.
“It was the first time I met him in person and he already felt like a brother to me. We need him in this class.
The Notre Dame coaching staff played a major role in James’ decision to commit to the Irish in the first place and obviously had another huge impact on him this weekend.
“They are probably the most unique, decorated and elite personnel in the country and the recruits we bring in emulate those same traits,” he said.
“We all want to be part of something special and special is the definition of Notre Dame.”
