1.87 million euros announced for Irish music and arts abroad

Culture Ireland, which supports Irish arts abroad, has announced its latest funding decisions for projects taking place in 2022, totaling € 1.87 million.

1.47 M € has been allocated to the organizations First Music Contact, Literature Ireland and the Irish Film Institute International, as well as to the Irish Cultural Center in Paris and the Irish Arts Center in New York, for their programs. First Music Contact will feature a number of Irish musicians at international events including garage noise group Sprints and rapper Malaki at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton, where Ireland is a main partner.

Artistic projects
In addition, € 394K has been allocated to 47 other projects, including € 104K for music. Among the winners are pop-rock group Wyvern Lingo, which will tour Europe in February and March; YOU Dublin Harp Ensemble, which will perform at the World Harp Congress in Cardiff in July; Just Mustard, which will be touring Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium in February; and a performance of the works of composer Karen Power by Quiet Music Ensemble will take place in New York in April. Maria Somerville, Lúnasa, Thumper, We Banjo 3 and Goitse also received funding for international tours.

The funding also supports an Irish presence at events such as Celtic Connections in Glasgow and CelticFest in Vancouver.

Commenting on the funding, Minister Catherine Martin said:

It is essential that we continue to support our artists as they strive to present their work globally in new and innovative ways. I am delighted that the Culture Ireland funding announced today is helping Irish artists reach out to audiences around the world in person, wherever possible, and to start again making cultural connections and growing an audience for Irish arts .
